- note: links to documents mentioned in this introduction can be found at the base of this page.

The Sunshine Tour Anti-Doping Programme was officially introduced to its members at a launch at Fancourt on the 10th of February 2010. Members are encouraged to become familiar with the information and requirements to ensure compliance with this policy once drug testing commences.

As a member of the International Federation of PGA Tours, the Sunshine Tour was also a signatory to the Anti-Doping Policy for the Sport of Golf as designed by the World Golf Foundation, which ensured a uniform approach to anti-doping by all the various golfing organisations around the world. The Sunshine Tour Anti-Doping Programme is based very closely on that of the European PGA Tour and mutual recognition of decisions between members of the Federation will apply.

The Sunshine Tour Anti-doping Programme Guide (“the Guide”) provides not only the wording and definitions of the official policy; it includes sections which guide players to a better understanding of what the program is all about, including simple explanations of the most common prohibited substances. Also included in the Guide is a summary of all prohibited substances and methods. Lastly, included in the Guide is an example of the Temporary Use Exemption & Declaration Application (“TUEDA”) form and notes on when and how to use it (where applicable).

The printed Guide was distributed to members at the launch and at a follow-up seminar at Pretoria Country Club on Wednesday 24th of February. The printed Guide will be made available through the tournament offices during the year and will also be available for download from our website (see links below). The application form for ‘Therapeutic Use Exemption and Declaration’ and the ‘Drugs in Sport List 2010’ as distributed by the South African Institute for Drug Free Sport (“SAIDS”) can also be accessed via the website.

The ‘Drugs in Sport’ list provides the Trade Names of all prohibited and permitted drugs, as well as the Generic Names of prohibited substances. Please note that the list does not include any reference to sports supplements. Sports supplements are not comprehensively regulated in South Africa and members are advised to consult a registered sports nutritionist if they have concerns about the presence of prohibited substances among the ingredients of sports supplements they are using as part of a training or nutritional program.

The Sunshine Tour has formed a partnership with the SAIDS to administer its Anti-Doping Programme and you can rest assured that all the procedures will meet with strict International Anti-Doping Standards as prescribed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (“WADA”).

The Sunshine Tour will begin with sample testing in July 2010 and urge its members to ensure they are educated about the program and their physicians or nutritionists are aware of the restrictions when prescribing medication or supplements.

The Sunshine Tour’s Anti-Doping Programme Administrator and Chief Medical Officer will gladly assist any member with guidance to understand the program and procedures, but it remains the responsibility of each member to ensure he complies with the regulations of the Anti-Doping Programme.
